Ian Joyce: A Life in Art

Ian Joyce (born 1961, Dublin) is an Irish artist whose multidisciplinary practice includes performance, music, installation, printmaking, painting, sculpture, and artist’s books. 

His work has been exhibited in Ireland, France, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Bosnia, as well as in Georgia and Armenia. He has also participated in contemporary art events in South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Joyce has completed several public art commissions across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and has held artist residencies and scholarships in Spain, Germany, France, and Taiwan.

He studied at Lester B. Pearson College on Vancouver Island from 1977 to 1979 and earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English, Philosophy, and Economics from University College Dublin in 1982. His early experiences include writing and directing short plays in Canada and teaching in a Tibetan refugee camp in Karnataka, India, before continuing his studies in Berlin.

Ian Joyce’s practice reflects a lifelong engagement with material and form. His recent work includes performance and film, continuing his exploration of artistic process and cultural dialogue.
